What’s up and coming with whiskey?

When thinking of whisky, many would automatically think of deep, dark and cold Scottish lochs filled with mythical creatures from the Jurassic.

Others would think of the wind-battered and dramatic cliffs of Ireland.

Deeply embedded in their minds eye, people in this whisky cliché are all red-haired, wearing checkered kilts (and nothing else?), singing Gaelic songs with the usual bagpipe melody in the background and pouring multiple drams to share, cheer and warm themselves up.

This dusty picture of whisky is finally coming to an end.

Like a phoenix rising from the ashes modern, unconventional and trendy new whiskey brands are being produced far from the original British peaty shores and instead in the sunny lands of Australia and the United States.

To celebrate Whisky Day, we want to focus on those brands making it their mission to rethink Whiskey, paying only respect to what matters most: the satisfaction of drinkers.

Adelaide Hills Distillery:

award-winning whiskies with a signature Australian twist

Sacha La Forgia is the man with the Midas touch.

After becoming an Icon of Gin in 2020 , we have a feeling he could become an Icon of Whisky in 2021 (you read it here first !!)

While effortlessly mastering (or so it seems!) a completely different category of spirit, the Serial Craft Distillers remain true to their ethos: producing exceptional spirits with a signature Australian twist by using local botanicals in all their products.

Below are their first two whiskeys, released in 2020 and 2021, and already racking up the most prestigious of awards!

 /Native Grain Whiskey/

This whiskey is a tribute to its local terroir as it uses Australian weeping grass.

Weeping grass is native to Australia and produces a plump grain similar to rice, but when distilled it produces a really beautiful cereal, with brown rice-like characters, hints of apricot kernel and toasted chocolate.

The Native Grain Project is the only whisky in the world that is made of Australian cereal grains.

The releases are the result of years of experimenting with introducing Australian Native Produce into the mash.

To date Sacha has experimented with Wattleseed, Kangaroo Grass, Spinifex and Salt Bush Seed to name a few.

The results are outstanding, and you can really taste the land from where it comes.

/Australian Whiskey (NEW)/

The latest release from the distillery Down Under, is a whiskey that looks to break the traditional boundaries of what we know whiskey to be, creating something uniquely Australian in style & flavour.

Using local barley the ultimate goal was to create something uniquely Australian.
