Iconic Stellenbosch estate Mulderbosch, widely regarded for their expertise in making premium wines from South Africa’s signature white variety Chenin Blanc, has forged a new partnership with digital experts Wikiwine to reach some of China’s most discerning wine consumers.

“We are extremely excited to be entering the China market partnering with Wikiwine,” says Chrianto Ooosthuizen, CEO of Mulderbosch.  “Their contemporary, premium, and highly dynamic platform which caters directly to Chinese wine lovers is exactly the right positioning for our wines. We are thrilled to be working with such a passionate team of experts to build our brand in China.”

Mulderbosch was founded in 1989 and since then has been widely accepted as one of South Africa’s foremost wine producers. Situated close to premium wine region Stellenbosch, in the Western Cape Province of South Africa, the winery has received a distinguished reputation for producing wines of quality and character and a coveted track record of accolades. With their 46 hectares planted in grapes, and their avant-garde winemaking philosophy, the goal is to produce wines that have balance, freshness, fruit expression and are respectful of the sites on which the grapes are grown.

Wikiwine’s starting selection will feature Mulderbosch’s full range of Chenin Blanc. The entry-level Chenin Blanc Steen Op Hout, one of the first Chenin Blancs in South Africa to see any oak ageing, is the perfect introduction for those who’ve never tried this variety which is similar to Chardonnay but often more expressive in terms of its fruit and vibrancy. Full of bright juicy fruit and refreshing acidity this works well on to drink a glass on its own and is also very flexible when it comes to different cuisines.

Their three highly complex and age-worthy Single Vineyard Chenins, all three of which were awarded 94+ points by Tim Atkin MW in his South Africa report 2019, are perfect for wine lovers looking to explore some of the finest white wines that South Africa has to offer. Any fans of white Burgundy or Loire Valley whites like Savennières should give these a serious look!

Along with the Chenin Blanc, three other white wines were selected. The classic Stellenbosch Sauvignon Blanc, the 1,000 Miles Sauvignon Blanc and Mulderbosch’s Chardonnay, a gently oaked style, relaunching with the new 2019 vintage this year with grapes sourced from Mulderbosch’s very own home block in the heart of Stellenbosch.

Although Mulderbosch became famous for its white wines, the rosé and the red wines also became a hit. On the rosé side, Mulderbosch’s Cabernet Sauvignon Rosé is one of the biggest selling rosés in Sweden and one of the top 10 selling rosés in the USA. The Mulderbosch’s Rosé Brut NV is a sparkling wine with vibrant, zesty aromas and fresh mineral palate.

The Faithful Hound red, a Cabernet Franc dominant Bordeaux blend, is the perfect counterpoint to Bordeaux – riper with juicier fruit, softer tannins yet with the same Bordeaux-like earthiness – making it well suited to any lovers of good quality Bordeaux and at a great price! A Single Vineyard Cabernet Franc completes the premium tier offering for the reds with great richness of fruit, spicy complexity, and a beautifully persistent finish.
