Sonoma’s Schug Estate Winery Partners with Nimbility for APAC

Schug Estate Winery, pioneers of Pinot Noir in Carneros, Sonoma, is partnering with Nimbility to expand its presence in the Asia-Pacific markets. This collaboration aims to introduce the Pinot Noir legacy and exceptional quality wines of Schug Estate to a new audience, while enhancing brand recognition and market penetration across the region.

“We are extremely excited to be partnering with Nimbility to build our export markets in APAC and increase Schug Estate’s presence and visibility across the region,” says Dave Moore, General Manager at Schug Estate. “Our historic, family business which has been responsible through the decades for writing a significant part of Pinot Noir history in Carneros, coupled with our fresh, elegant and highly drinkable wines, hopefully will resonate with Asian wine lovers.”

Celebrating 40 years since their inaugural vintage, Schug Winery was born from Walter Schug’s passion for Pinot Noir, a journey that led him from Napa Valley’s pioneering days at Joseph Phelps Winery (where he was responsible for first vintage of Insignia) to the wind-swept hills of Sonoma’s Carneros region. Honouring their 100-year-old heritage and guided by winemaker Johannes Scheid, they continue to craft European-styled wines for a new chapter, inviting consumers to share their family’s legacy in every sip.

The Schug Estate Vineyard sits at the base of a high ridge on the western edge of Carneros in Sonoma County. Rocky soils and gusty afternoon winds result in small berries with rich concentration of aroma and flavour.

Walter Schug’s winemaking legacy in Carneros is marked by his dedication to crafting elegant and expressive wines. His focus on Pinot Noir and Chardonnay demonstrated his commitment to showcasing the potential of these varieties in the unique terroir of the Carneros region, an AVA which he helped establish in 1983.

Winemaker Johannes Scheid first met Walter after an annual presentation at Geisenheim, and, after inquiring about the possibility of a harvest internship, was hired on the spot for a 2009 position at Schug. In 2016 he became Schug’s Assistant Winemaker, and now, as Winemaker, he is dedicated to preserving the legacy of terroir-driven and European-style Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

“The terroir here in Sonoma is incredibly diverse,” says Scheid, “from cool climate vineyards close to the bay and coast, to exposed mountain vineyards high above the valleys. Highlighting these distinct vineyards and capturing their individual characteristics and nuances gives us infinite possibilities to create terroir-driven wines.”

The new partnership with Nimbility is set to grow and elevate Schug’s profile in the region, working with current import partners to build greater presence of the brand across all key target channels, as well as entering new markets with new partners to bring these wines to a greater number of Asian consumers across the region.

Francesca Martin, Nimbility Founding Partner and CMO commented: “We are absolutely thrilled to be partnering with Schug to bring these stunning, terroir-driven wines to wine lovers across APAC. These are lively, elegant and highly drinkable styles of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay that we truly believe will be appreciated by Asian consumers so we look forward immensely to being able to introduce them to our buyer network in the coming months.”
